Before Anything, There Was Mystery by Martin Willitts Jr.

Before Anything, There Was Mystery is based on Martin Willitt's knowledge of creation myths and star constellations from around the world, rune and tarot readings, knowledge of gemstones, and Celtic and Egyptian astrology. His book takes these old beliefs and deep knowledge, and tries to place them in a modern context.

Martin Willitts is a retired Librarian, but he continues to be an old-time Oral Storyteller of fairy tales, myths, children stories, telling stories from memory from around the world. He also knows how to read gemstones, rune castings, and other fortune-telling. Martin was nominated for 6 Pushcart and 6 Best of the Net awards. He provided his hands-on workshop “How to Make Origami Haiku Jumping Frogs” at the 2012 Massachusetts Poetry Festival. He won the William K. Hathaway Award for Poem of the Year 2012.

  1. Martin Willitts, Jr., is not only an award-winning poet, he is an exceptional editor; his Alternatives to Surrender is a moving anthology of poems by cancer survivors and by caretakers and family members. I look forward to reading this collection.
